Charles, (Chuck) Duane Netherlain, September 8, 1951 - April 2, 2017

VAN ALSTYNE - Our friend and beloved Chuck laid down his guitar on April 2nd, 2017. Charles Duane "Chuck" Netherlain entered this world Saturday, September 8th, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. His family later made their home in the Dallas, Texas area. He graduated in 1969 from Richardson High School. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served four years as a Russian Linguist during the Vietnam conflict. He was very proud of his service. For 41 years, Chuck was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and later as a Vehicle Operation & Maintenance Assistant. During this time, he also held offices with the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 4065. He served as a union steward helping other union workers defend their interests and rights. In addition, he was a mason with the Plano Masonic Lodge. Chuck retired in 2012. During his retirement, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family, volunteering with CASA of Grayson County, following politics, playing his guitar, capturing sunrises and sunsets along the countryside and meeting with his fellow friends of Bill W. He is survived by his children, Sandra True of Van Alstyne and Michelle Heck of Van Alstyne; son-in-law, Rob Heck; the mother of his children, Janice McDivitt; adoring grandchildren Amelia Heck, Presley Heck, Kennedy Heck, Bobbi True, Briegh Ann True; and great-grandchildren Dustin Webb and Caroline Webb. He is also survived by sisters, Kaye Luttrell of Van Alstyne and Janet Gilcrease of Sherman; step-sisters, Susan Bond of Dallas and Tammy Bond of Joshua; step-mother Betty Netherlain. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Trent Bell, Chris Bell, Amanda Guidroz, April Anderson, Kris Luttrell and Kari Layton. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Netherlain; mother, Joyce Bell; step-father, Garrett Bell; and brother Bobby Netherlain. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Chuck's name to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Grayson County, an organization very important to him.
